Week Twenty
by Asher B. Chancey, BaseballEvolution.com August 23, 2007
Well, as it turns out we have six bona fide division races after all. The Yankees may in fact catch the Red Sox - by way, David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez are not looking good at this point in the season - if their pitching can hold on. The Tigers and the Indians look content to limp to the finish line, though the Indians pitching suddenly - almost as if to spite me - looks very good and Jeremy Bonderman and Justin Verlander suddenly can't get an out. The Mariners simply refuse to let the fact that they are a bad team keep them from chasing the Angels. The Mets may or may not be able to hold off the Phils and Braves, what with all of their injuries. The Cubs and Brewers are so busy not putting each other away that they have let the Cardinals back into the NL Central hunt, though the Cardinals will have to get that record to .500 - and add some pitching - if they want to escape the Line of Death. And finally, out West, we have a four race between four fundamentally flawed teams. We'll just have to see if Brandon Webb can continue to shutout major league baseball, Chris Young and return from injury before the Presidential election, the Dodgers can score another run, or the Rockies pitching can continue to over-achieve.
Without further ado, here are the Week Twenty Power Rankings. Enjoy and, as always, feel free to comment.
