Mailbag: Puttin' Down Passan
October 20, 2006

Brian:

Hey, just came across your article:
http://www.baseballevolution.com/keith/crystalb.html

good stuff, he's such an idiot.   I can't believe all
the "respect" he gets.  I've sent him so many emails
because of his asinine observations.  I think you're
right, he just takes somebody else's thoughts and
tries to pan them off as his own.   And then when he
can't steal an idea, he comes up with the totally
off-base results that make no sense.

Passan on the Tigers pre-season "the Tigers are
anything more than a bunch of pieces thrown together,
ones that even Jim Leyland won't be able to harness."

I didn't have the Tigers going to the series, but I
loved the team they'd been putting together and
expected a big year.   Not winning it all, but
challenging for the playoffs.

Any way, keep slammin the tool known as Passan!

Keith:

Thanks for writing.  I still haven't figured out why so many sportswriters are afraid to make bold predictions.  Then at the end of the season, most are afraid to revisit them and admit the places in which they were wrong.

At Baseball Evolution, we will be reviewing our staff predictions in-depth after the conclusion of the World Series.  For now, note that Scott was one of the few prognosticators that correctly had the Tigers winning the Wild Card.  From his predictions:

"A hungry Detroit team with a balance of youth and veterans similar to the '05 White Sox will nab 2nd place and a surprise Wild Card berth."

As for Passan, we try not to hit the same writer twice in our Bonehead Sportswriter of the Month segment.  After all, Bob Brenly has a blog now; we would have to just keep going there!
